The Cherry Trees in Columbia Park,
Torrance CA. were donated by Daisaku Ikeda, president of
Soka Gaki International. The idea was suggested by the
members of Pacific Area along with enthusiastic support
from Daniel R. Uvrere, Torrance Park Service Supervisor.
With further dialogue, the city council approved the
project. To assure the trees
survival it was recommended that 10 trees be planted
each year, for 10 years. Dr. Ikeda has increased the
plantings to 30 per year for a total of 500 trees! Future generations will be able
to enjoy these beautiful trees. |
